U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: (05/13/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 5,465 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested ten criminal aliens and five gang members. There were three rocking incidents.

Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sheffield, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for aggravated sexual assault of a child in the state of Tennessee, indecent liberties with a child in the state of North Carolina, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,400 pounds of marijuana after a Border Patrol canine alerted to packages at a parcel mailing facility in Pharr, Texas.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near San Diego, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member, and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Gila Bend, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for aggravated sexual assault of a child and had been previously removed from the United States.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico at the traffic checkpoint near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon against a family member, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,260 rounds of AK-47 ammunition near Laredo, Texas. Agents observed two individuals engaged in what appeared to be illegal activity along the riverbank. The subjects absconded to Mexico, leaving behind a travel bag. A search of the abandoned property revealed the ammunition.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. During processing, the subject claimed he had been shot by Barrio Azteca gang members in Mexico several days earlier. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, and released into Border Patrol custody. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Houlton Sector – A Border Patrol agent arrested a United States Citizen (USC) near Houlton, Maine. The agent recognized the subject as an individual wanted for aggravated assault. The subject was turned over to local law enforcement authorities.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Sunland Park, New Mexico. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño gang member. Records checks revealed the subject had multiple narcotics convictions and an active arrest warrant for dangerous drugs issued in the state of California.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Laredo, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being an 18th Street gang member and records checks revealed he had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 50 pounds of marijuana and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tubac, Arizona. While attempting to abscond with a bundle of marijuana on his back, the subject fell and injured himself. He was transported to a local hospital, treated, and released into Border Patrol custody.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents were assaulted by several subjects near Calexico, California. As agents were attempting to arrest four illegal aliens near the international border fence, five unidentified subjects began throwing rocks at agents. The agents deployed less than lethal weapons to stop the threat, and the attackers retreated into Mexico. The four illegal aliens were arrested without further incident.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested four illegal aliens who had gunshot wounds near Fort Hancock, Texas. An agent encountered the four gunshot victims lying in the road near the Rio Grande River. The subjects claimed unknown gunmen assaulted them while they were fishing and the four illegally entered the United States to escape the attack. The injured subjects were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The case was referred to the appropriate authorities.

Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized two 9 mm handguns, a 2003 Chevrolet truck and arrested 10 illegal aliens from Mexico near Hebbronville, Texas. Agents approached the vehicle after the driver abruptly pulled off the road, exited the vehicle and attempted to abscond. A search of the vehicle revealed nine smuggled aliens and two firearms inside. Agents arrested the driver after he was discovered hiding nearby in the brush.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for sexual misconduct with a minor and was a registered sex offender in the state of Arizona. He had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,577 pounds of marijuana and a 2008 Ford truck near Benson, Arizona. The vehicle was discovered abandoned in a ditch, and a search revealed the narcotics inside.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Deming, New Mexico. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Sureño 13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had a prior conviction for aggravated assault and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,438 pounds of marijuana, a tractor trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer and a subsequent search revealed the marijuana hidden inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Honduras near Eloy, Arizona. During processing, the subject admitted to being an MS-13 gang member. Records checks revealed he had an extensive criminal history and had been previously removed from the United States.


Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and four illegal aliens after performing a vehicle stop near Blythe, California. When agents attempted to inspect the interior of the vehicle, the USC driver became combative and assaulted an agent. She was subdued and arrested without further incident. Records checks revealed the subject had two prior convictions for assault with a deadly weapon as well as prior convictions for fraud and battery.
