Byrne speaks on illegal immigration

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bradley Byrne spelled out his stance on illegal immigration at Albertville City Hall on Wednesday.

Byrne said he chose Albertville as a place to announce his stance because of some of the illegal immigration issues in the city.

There were several components to what Byrne called his illegal immigration reform package.

The first was to expand training for state and local law enforcement officers, namely utilizing the 287(g) program.

“As governor, I will work with the state Department of Homeland Security and the state Department of Public Safety to develop a strategic plan for expanding ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) training into targeted local communities, where law enforcement officers face frequent challenges and risk associated with illegal immigration,â€
