US deports 2,462 Dominicans in 2013 fiscal year

Santo Domingo.– U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported 368,644 immigrants during the 2013 fiscal year, of whom 2,462 are Dominican Republic nationals, according to the agency’s year-end removal numbers.

ICE officials report that 235,093 of those removed were apprehended at the border, and 133,551 people were apprehended in the interior of the U.S.

The immigration agency said Mexico continues to be the leading country of origin for those removed, 241,493. The figures for Guatemala show 47,769 deportees; Honduras 37,049; El Salvador 21,602; Ecuador 1,616; Brazil 1,500; Colombia 1,429; and Nicaragua 1,383.

ICE said 98 percent of the agency's total removals were convicted criminals, recent border crossers, illegal re-entrants or those previously removed in line with the agency's enforcement priorities.
