Escondido police chief tells ACLU he'll modify some operations

ESCONDIDO – The police chief, who has been criticized for policies said to alienate some Latinos, agreed to modest changes in police operations after meeting with an official with the ACLU.

The American Civil Liberties Union has accused the police department of using drivers' license checkpoints as a “fishing expeditionsâ€

For as long as I can remember there have been checkpoints in various areas of southern CA. Should this change because we have more illegals now then years ago? Don't recall the ACLU having a problem with checkpoints back then.

Why did the police chief agree to a meeting with the ACLU?

The ACLU is a private organization, they have no authority what so ever! The ACLU should not be dictating how police deal with illegal aliens.

Meeting with the ACLU helps prevent a lawsuit that the taxpayers would have to pay for.
It also helps prevent a waste of police officer and police chief's time by having them in a trial over this.
If you make some small changes it make the police look good and saves money.

Is it a public meeting?
