Pei Wei Holds Job Fairs to Replenish Staff

PHOENIX - Last Friday, Sheriff Joe Arpaio led an identity theft raid on 4 valley Pei Wei restaurants. He was looking for more than 100 employees who were allegedly using fake IDs to get a job.

The raid cost Pei Wei dozens of employees, so on Sunday, the restaurant took out a full page ad in the paper advertising jobs -- and hiring on spot.

Monday, people were lined up to snag those jobs.

We went to the Phoenix Pei Wei at 7th Street and Glendale to find it closed to business, open only to interview hundreds who showed up for a job.

We started the day at a job fair at a Phoenix Marriott, asking job seekers if they were willing to wash dishes for a living.

"I feel bad for those people losing their jobs, but if it means that I get one I'm really happy. Sheriff Joe did what he did and I'll send him a thank you letter," says Jacquelyn Paul, who is jobless.

She has a master's degree, has run her own business, but today she applied at Pei Wei for a cashier's job.

"I've got a family to feed and $8 an hour is good. It's better than 0 dollars an hour."

Paul doesn't buy into the notion that immigrants do jobs that American's won't do. Others we met at the job fair echoed those sentiments when we showed them the Pei Wei want ad.

"As long as I know I'm getting a check at the end of two weeks I'm there. A job is a job right now, there aren't very many people handing them out," says Vince Flores.

Madeline Morales got a job on the spot.

"They did an interview and I filled out a whole lot of paperwork and I got hired… it was really fast."

Katie Happ says will do whatever it takes to get a Pei Wei job.

"I'm pretty desperate, 100 percent desperate. I've been here 2 and half hours and I'm going to wait till six to see if I can get an interview," she says.

This is what we need to see. Illegals getting tossed out and being replaced with honest legal US citizens.

If the Company would have employed legal citizens, instead of defrauding IRS and gaining high profit from employing illegal aliens, the owner would not have to cease business operation to employ legal workers.
