KENMORE, Wash. -- King County sheriff's deputies investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy have arrested a 23-year-old woman who was babysitting him the day before.
Medics and police officers were called out Tuesday afternoon to a home in the 7600 block of NE Bothell Way after the babysitter reported that the little boy was unconscious and unresponsive.
The babysitter told medics that the boy, Oscar Rios, had fallen off a table. He was taken to the hospital, where he died the next day.
The 23-year-old babysitter was arrested later on Tuesday and booked into jail for investigation of assault.
The identity of the babysitter has not been released, but King County records show Villanira Garcia-Cabrera was arrested for investigation of child assault. She is being held without bail because she is also an illegal alien.
Before the woman was taken to jail, she reportedly told neighbors the toddler choked on a Cheerio and hit his head.
Neighbors said the babysitter was investigated for child abuse several years ago. At that time charges were reportedly dropped and the woman was allowed to continue taking care of children in her home.
The death remains under investigation, and the medical examiner is working to d

I don't believe for one minute that child at the age of 2 choked on a Cheerio. That would be very unusual. First of all it could not completely block his airway, he should have been able to cough it out. Plus it would break apart unlike a piece of hot dog or something similar.
Poor little thing. I hope they prosecute her to full extent of the law.

Police arrest sitter in 2-year-old's death
By BRAD WONG
P-I REPORTER
The 2-year-old Kenmore boy who suffered injuries while under the care of a baby sitter and later died has been identified as Oscar Rios, the King County Medical Examiner's Office reported Friday.
The cause and manner of the boy's death on Wednesday are pending, an office spokeswoman said.
King County sheriff deputies have arrested the 23-year-old baby sitter on suspicion of assault because Oscar's injuries appeared suspicious, Sgt. John Urquhart said.
He did not elaborate on the injuries or what caused deputies to deem them suspicious.
Fire units responded Tuesday to a call for help at a house in the 7600 block of Northeast Bothell Way, he said.
The fire units then called deputies. Medics rushed the boy to a hospital.
The baby sitter told emergency officials that Oscar was unconscious and also informed medics that he had fallen from a table, KOMO/4 reported.
Urquhart did not identify the baby sitter, who has been booked into the King County Jail. It is possible, he said, that charges against her could change.
