The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office arrested on Monday a Phoenix resident on suspicion of sexually abusing his girlfriend's two daughters.

Luis Mejia Ortiz, 33, is accused of molesting his girlfriend's 5-year-old and 9-year-old daughters between September and December.

The 9-year-old told both her mother and grandmother that Ortiz had touched her inappropriately in their home while her mother was at work, according to Maricopa County Superior Court documents.

The mother then confronted Ortiz over the phone, and he admitted wrongdoing, according to reports.

Authorities attempted to apprehend Ortiz by contacting his brother, but Ortiz told him that he was fleeing to Mexico.

Ortiz was found in Nogales on Monday, and told authorities that he had inappropriate contact with the two victims, according to court documents.

When interviewed by investigators, Ortiz said that he knew what he did was wrong and needed help, according to the court documents. He also said he believed he was "not right" because of a previous head injury.

Ortiz was taken to 4th Avenue Jail and booked on suspicion of four counts of sexual conduct with a minor, one count of molestation of a child, one count of sexual abuse, and one count of public sexual indecency. He is being held without bond.
