Border seizures this week include Mexican bologna

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers made 13 seizures of prohibited food items this week, including a man's attempt to smuggle five rolls of Mexican pork bologna, CBP said in a news release.
The 46-year-old man was fined $300 after CBP officers discovered the meat hidden in his vehicle.

Other prohibited food items seized this week include pork, carnitas, passion fruit, apples, yams, tangerines, persimmons, guavas, avocados, oranges and sugar cane. Violators were fined a total of $3,275 and their products were seized and destroyed.

In addition to the agricultural seizures, CBP officers working at border ports of entry in El Paso, West Texas, and New Mexico made a total of 39 drug seizures during the past seven days. They seized 3,500 pounds of marijuana in 36 busts, 24.6 pounds of cocaine in a pair of busts, and a small quantity of methamphetamine.
