Woman Accused of Marrying 10 Illegals Goes to Court

I posted this when the woman was first arrested but now we hear the sob story. She must really think we are stupid. Having gone through the immigration process and having relatives going through it I can tell you they check people with common names more than the rest of us. In fact they take alot longer to process due to their name. All that information is on the FBI website.

Woman accused of marrying 10 men goes to court
    By Mike Clary | Sun-Sentinel.com

A Hialeah woman accused of marrying 10 men without bothering to divorce any of them appeared in criminal court Wednesday to be arraigned on nine counts of bigamy.

Eunice Lopez, 26, told Circuit Judge Mark King Leban that she had hired an attorney to fight the felony charges. After setting a hearing date for later this month Leban told Lopez, "I suggest you stay away from churches."

    Lopez smiled.

In what federal investigators say was a marriage fraud, Lopez is accused of already being married when she wed 10 undocumented immigrants between 2002 and 2006 in a scheme to make money, according to the Miami-Dade Office of the State Attorney and the Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Outside the courtroom, a visibly-pregnant Lopez, the mother of two young sons, denied ever being married. She said she had never heard of the men that prosecutors said she wed, sometimes in civil ceremonies within days of each other.

Ducking away from television cameras, Lopez blamed her legal troubles on confusion over her name, which she said was common. "Maybe someone is using my identification," she said.

Lopez was accompanied to the arraignment by her mother, Eurice Rodriguez, 56, who said the notoriety surrounding her daughter's arrest last month had "traumatized" her daughter's children, ages seven and eight. The children had seen their mother's mug-shot in the newspapers and on television, Rodriguez said.

"They come home from school crying because the kids say their mother is a criminal," said Rodriguez.

Lopez was taken into custody Dec. 12 when an officer in the wealthy enclave of Palm Beach spotted her and another woman sitting by the causeway and drinking beer at 3 a.m. When the officer checked ran Lopez's identification, he discovered she was wanted on a Miami-Dade County warrant.

Lopez is to return to court Jan. 17 with her attorney. Leban set a tentative trial date for March 24.

Now free on $18,000 bond, Lopez was arrested once before, on a petty larceny charge. In May 2003 she was convicted and fined.

She said she had never heard of the men
B.S. She knew the men alright.

    Ducking away
More proof that she is guilty.

"Maybe someone is using my identification,"
Sorry, you've been caught. Your guilty.

    had "traumatized" her daughter's children
An excuse to sue so she can get more money.

"They come home from school crying because the kids say their mother is a criminal," said Rodriguez.
Can anyone verify this happened? I think not.

Bottom line people, she did this for the money, and because she was so greedy, she got caught.

She is very greedy. She came here in 2002 and thanks to the wetfoot/dryfoot policy she got to stay and can't be deported. That is what gets me. If she came from any other country she would be deported as it is federal offence that also involves immigration. She is greedy as it takes about 6 months to get a greencard so she married more than one at the same time and therefore knew darn well what she was doing.

Cuban family charged in immigration scheme
    MIAMI HERALD

One by one, a family of swindlers marrying undocumented immigrants for cash is facing criminal charges, investigators say.

Prosecutors this week arrested Eurice Rodriguez, 46, for bigamy. She is accused of marrying three men without ever divorcing the first. Her daughter, Eunice Lopez, 26, was arrested last year on nine counts of the same.

Eurice Rodriguez's brother and sister are on the lam. Agents say Loida Rodriguez and Jesus Ruben Rodriguez are wanted on multiple counts of bigamy, too.

The family members, Cuban natives, are legal U.S. residents. Authorities believe they have been marrying undocumented migrants for money to help them earn legal U.S. residency.

    Eurice Rodriguez posted bond Tuesday.

The investigation was headed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Robert Colon and Jorge Broche, an investigator with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office.

Lopez was charged in December on nine counts of bigamy for marrying nine men without ever divorcing her first husband. She has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.

A month later, prosecutors arrested her boyfriend, Rodneys Gonzalez, 33, on three counts of bigamy. He, too, is awaiting trial.

According to an arrest warrant released Tuesday, Eurice Rodriguez first wed Alcides Orozoco in January 2006. But between April 2006 and August 2007, she married three more men "while legally having a living husband," the warrant said.

Her brother did the same five times, her sister 12 times, according to the state attorney's office.

This is nothing new in Florida. The going rate is between $5,000 and $12,000 last time I heard. What is sad is if you are a legal resident and have a spouse in another country that you have been married to for years it takes 7 years to get them residency and immigration lawyers recommend the person gets their citizenship and then apply for their spouse it is quicker. I don't think that marriages with people from other countries be allowed for immigration purposes. There is far too much of this fraud. It is most common with Cubans but the Russians and others are into it as well.

Authorities say a Miami family married immigrants for cash
    Associated Press
    8:10 AM EDT, June 11, 2008

MIAMI - Federal authorities in Miami say one family has been marrying illegal immigrants for money.

The Miami-Dade state attorney's office has charged five people with bigamy in connection with the case. They're accused of marrying undocumented immigrants for cash to help them earn legal U.S. residency.

Authorities say 46-year-old Eurice Rodriguez married three times without ever divorcing her first husband. She was arrested this week and posted bond Tuesday. Court documents do not list an attorney for her. A phone listed for a Eurice Rodriguez in Miami has been disconnected.

Two other family members were also charged this week, one for 12 illegal marriages. Authorities are looking for both of them .
