Kidnapped toddler found in Mexico
(3/02/07 - SAN ANTONIO, TX)

A 13-month-old Georgia boy was reunited with his mother in Mexico City Thursday night after Mexican authorities acting on a tip from U.S. Marshals took his father into custody, authorities said.

Zeke Brown was abducted by his noncustodial father, Will Brown, on Jan. 30 in Evans, Ga. The car used in the kidnapping was found in a restaurant parking lot in Devine, Texas, on Feb. 10, federal authorities said.

U.S. marshals were able to track Brown to Mexico City and contacted Mexican authorities for help, said Deputy U.S. Marshal Timothy Hughes.

Lois Brown went to Mexico City a couple of days ago at the request of authorities so she could be there to take custody of her son once Mexican authorities went to the house where he was staying. Mother and son were reunited Thursday night, Hughes said.

"He's fine," Hughes said. "Everything I've heard, the child is in good condition."

The Mexico City field office of the U.S. Marshals Service has asked the Instituto Nacional de Migracion to review Will Brown's immigration status. If he has violated Mexican immigration laws, he will be expelled and returned to face charges in Georgia.

Will Brown lived in Texas at one point but authorities didn't know of any connection to Devine, which is about 32 miles southwest of San Antonio, Hughes said.

"We believe he had befriended some people who knew how to run people back and forth to Mexico," he said.
