GOLIAD - Two illegal immigrants were detained by the Goliad County Sheriff's Office and a truck they were in was seized following a traffic stop Saturday morning.

Goliad County Sheriff Robert DeLaGarza said at around 11 a.m., a caller reported two vehicles that were apparently traveling together were traveling at a high rate of speed on state Highway 239.

Deputy Paul San Miguel observed the rear vehicle weaving back and forth. When he turned on the overhead lights of his patrol car, the truck stopped in the left lane and 15-20 people jumped out of the back and ran toward the brush, the sheriff said.

The deputy was able to detain two of the men who were undocumented aliens. The men were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A 1988 GMC pickup was seized by the sheriff's office.

"It is starting to pick up again," said DeLaGarza. "This is the third incident involving illegals in the last week."

Game Warden Jesse Garcia assisted in the detention.
