HUNTSVILLE, AL - A stunning development in a tragedy that has rocked South Huntsville.

Less than one week after 19 year-old Tad Mattle and 16 year-old Leigh Anna Jimmerson were killed in a horrific car wreck, WHNT News 19 has learned of a connection between the suspect and Jimmerson's mother.

WHNT has confirmed that Jimmerson's mom Dr. Ellin Jimmerson was working on a documentary film on illegal immigration, and that one of the translators who helped convert interviews from Spanish to English was the suspect, Felix Ortega. Ortega remains behind bars at the Huntsville Metro Jail on two counts of murder. Authorities are still trying to verify Ortega's citizenship status to determine whether or not he is an illegal immigrant.

Police say Ortega rammed his vehicle into the teens' car last week at the intersection of Airport Road and Whitesburg Drive, killing both Mattle and Jimmerson. A person familiar with the project told News 19 that Ortega did the translations within the last few months.

"I don't have any words for it....it's the height of irony," said Rev. Jana Williams, a minister at Weatherly Heights Baptist Church who has assisted Ellin Jimmerson on the film. "I had to hear it two or three times before it really sunk in, and I just couldn't believe (it). I'm still in disbelief. But it has most definitely not changed her beliefs and her call to minister to this population."

Jimmerson's film is titled "Desconocida", a Spanish phrase referring to bones found in the desert belonging to unidentified illegal immigrants. Williams says Jimmerson's idea for the film came after a trip to the Mexican border a few years ago, when her daughter was still alive. The film is reportedly being narrated by actor Martin Sheen.

Dr. Ellin Jimmerson issued a brief statement on the public's response to her daughter's death. In part it reads: "Three families suffered irreparable damage on Friday night- the Jimmersons, the Mattles and the Ortegas. The damage reverberated across a city. Entire communities are devastated. But no amount of vindictiveness dressed up as calls for justice will undo our suffering...Instead of giving in to hostility and vindictiveness we choose love and redemption."

This wreck happend over a week ago and it's only getting out becasue of the city council issue of DUI. That's how willing and how far the MSM will go to cover up the crimes committed by illegal aliens.

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - As state and local officers continue to have their hands tied on illegal immigration, the topic is back at the fore-front of city hall.

This after a crash in Huntsville kills two teens.

Debate over the wreck that killed Leigh Anna Jimmerson and Tad Mattle has reached Huntsville City Hall.

Jimmerson and Mattle died Friday, April 17, after they were involved in a crash at the intersection of Airport Road, and Whitesburg Drive in Huntsville.

Investigators said the suspect, Felix Ortega, used different names in several arrests prior to the two murder charges he now faces.

"We are confident at this point that he is here illegally," said Deputy Chief Mark Hudson with the Huntsville Police Department.

Ortega's illegal status is something that didn't seem to matter to at least one of the victim's families.

"Three families suffered irreparable damage, the Jimmerson's, the Mattle's, and the Ortega's," said family minister Jana Williams.

Jana Williams spoke on behalf of the Jimmerson family who lost their daughter Leigh Anna in that crash.

Williams said the family doesn't want this issue to create hate.

"The Jimmerson's are the opposite of that, and want love and forgiveness and they have never had an ill will or ill thought toward this man or toward his community. They certainly don't want others using Leigh Anna Jimmerson's name as a rallying cry to hurt people that are vulnerable and marginalized to begin with," said Williams.

WAFF also learned more about the events leading up to the fatal crash.

Police said officers witnessed Ortega break several traffic laws the night of the fatal crash.

We're told lights and sirens were used to catch up to Ortega's truck.

Now I would like to know this lady's views on illegal immigrants now that one of them killed her daughter. I hope she finds ALIPAC!

Sadly this mother will now know the anguish other citizens have gone through when their loved one was killed by an Illegal Alien Drunk !!

She had sympathy for IA's who are responsible for their problems here in the USA but gave no thought to how Citizens have suffered needlessly at the hands of these people who have no right to be here.

It must be pretty difficult to live with the fact that you enabled the murderer of your own child. However, truth be know, Ms. Jimmerson is probably ignorant of her own culpability for the accident. It's amazing that someone would actually place the value of their childs life second to that of a personal agenda.

I'll bet Ms. Jimmerson wouldn't have given Ortega's immigration status a second thought if it would have been my child he killed.
