Report: Bush to visit Charlotte to drum up CAFTA support

Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Observer is reporting that President Bush will visit North Carolina's largest city on Friday to shore up support for his Central American trade agreement.

The White House will confirm only that Bush is scheduled to be in North Carolina after a morning meeting with the president of El Salvador at the White House. Republican congressional offices won't reveal the purpose or location of his visit.

A White House spokeswoman says the president's visit isn't settled and could change, but she also says more details could come today.

The newspaper reports that Bush is expected to visit a Gaston County textile mill, hours after his scheduled White House meeting with Salvadoran President Antonio Saca.

The proposed Central America Free Trade Agreement has been approved by the Senate, and a vote is expected soon in the House.

Bush's last visited Charlotte in September.
