EAGLE PASS – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Joint Targeting Team – South in Eagle Pass uncovered a stash house where 11 undocumented immigrants were found and arrested.

“Human smuggling is a profitable enterprise for the cartels,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “Border Patrol agents and law enforcement partners in Joint Targeting Teams search out such offenders. Our agency will continue to utilize a wide array of enforcement components to combat these trans-national criminal organizations at every level.”

On Feb. 7, Border Patrol agents, assisted by officers from Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, located a house near the downtown region of Eagle Pass that was suspected of being used to temporarily harbor smuggled immigrants. As law enforcement officials approached, a man was seen fleeing on foot. The individual was apprehended after a short chase and 10 other subjects were found within the residence. Evidence indicated that the people inside had recently crossed the Rio Grande River. The 11 individuals were arrested and then transported to the Eagle Pass South Border Patrol Station for processing.

In total, eight men from Mexico, one woman from Honduras, and one man and woman from El Salvador were apprehended. The individuals, some of whom had already been removed from the country previously, will be charged with being illegally present in the United States and face deportation.

Human stash houses are commonly utilized by criminal organizations to store smuggled immigrants in often sub-human conditions. Individuals must typically await transport to interior destinations of the United States and pay fees to smugglers. It is not uncommon for these undocumented immigrants to be held for weeks or more in small, cramped structures without adequate ventilation, running water, or sanitation. Organizers of stash houses have also been known to engage in kidnapping, robbery, and physical and sexual abuse of immigrants.

The Fire Department needs to do training exercises and burn these stash houses down...and the houses that are used to hide drugs for pick up.

Burn them down, clean up the neighborhood.

No need to burn the houses down, just deport illegal aliens. Get them out and keep them out.

Burn them down...they are all dumps and infested with illegals and garbage. Bulldoze the neighborhoods, get the crime and scum out and make housing for our Veteran's and Senior's who want to retire in a warmer climate.

Create more places like "The Villages" in Florida...but more affordable. Put in some beautiful RV Resorts for Senior's.

Oh man, those Villages in Florida, those are absolutely adorable places. Remember during the election the Seniors on their golf carts having a Trump Parade at the The Villages? I LOVED THAT!!

I have no problem with a developer tearing down and rebuilding, I'm just not supportive of government doing this type of thing. The government needs to get the illegals out and then see what the private sector will do with the property. But while the area is controlled by illegal aliens and drug cartels, not much private investors can do.

I have been to The Villages...stayed in the hotel there. Have family who lives there. That place rocks...and they have fun, fun, fun! Several different communities with a "nucleus" of shopping, restaurants and entertainment in each community with a Town Square where they gather for music, dancing and events. It is really something to see.

We need to look ahead and build more affordable "model" communities after The Villages. Have golf cart paths to Doctor's, Groceries and Shops. Many people will be retiring. We have many Senior's who full-time RV and come down from Canada. I would also like to see this for Veteran's Villages where they can get around easily without cars.

We need to burn those stash houses down, clear out the illegals and crime and create more Retirement Villages down by the border!

No one wants to RV down there due to so much crime...they ALL need to go!

This will clean up the area, create more jobs and make it affordable housing.

Beezer dear, they don't burn houses down, they tear them down. Maybe in war, they set them on fire, but not in civilian life, they just tear them down.

Burn...bulldoze...pick apart piece by piece...it's all good, just mow 'em down and clean out the trash
