Gov. Requesting More Border Patrol Agents for Border

Last Update: 6:50 pm

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Governor Rick Perry is in Washington, D.C. making an appeal to the U.S. Homeland Security secretary to beef up security along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Currently, 7,700 Border Patrol agents are stationed along the Texas-Mexico southwest border. Perry will request the government send 3,000 more.

The governor also has a standing request for money to deploy the National Guard to the border.

DPS troopers, Texas Rangers, National Guard helicopters and some Texas State Guard soldiers were deployed to the border several weeks ago. They are part of the governor's violence spillover contingency plan.
