3 Immigrants Sue New Jersey over Health Insurance Cuts

TRENTON, N.J. (AP/ 1010 WINS) -- Three legal immigrants have sued New Jersey over health insurance cuts.

The immigrants claiming the state discriminated against them by kicking them out of the subsidized health insurance program.

In a cost-saving effort, the state is planning to end New Jersey FamilyCare coverage for about 12,000 non-citizens. The program offers low-cost health insurance coverage to low-income families.

Two immigrants from Ecuador and one from Jamaica say the state is discriminating against them based on their alien status.

All three are legal, permanent residents who have had legal status in the U.S. for less than five years.

They say they can't afford non-subsidized health coverage.

Non-citizen children and pregnant women will not lose coverage.

Legal immigrants are not allowed to apply for FEDERAL benefits for five years. However, if the state where they reside allows it, they may apply for state benefits. These immigrants apparently were covered under state programs. Just my opinion, but they shouldn't be allowed to become a financial burden on American taxpayers. With only slightly over 50% of Americans hauling the load, non-emergency medical care for legal and illegal immigrants should be discontinued.

well not only that...I am sure the state recieves some federal funding for the medicaid type program. If one federal dollar goesn into the program they should not be allowed per the 5 year requirement.

After all, my 46 year olf natural born brother who got cancer two years ago that required numerous operations and chemo therapy and can no longer work as a journeyman electrician had to wait two years after getting his social security disability to be allowed to enroll in medicaid.

During that two years he had ZERO, NADA, NOTHING for health insurance and he was over qualified for state programs because his $1,300 per month disability exceeded the cutoff by about $50.

So, I and many other family members have had to scrape up 10's of thousands of dollars to get him follow-up care he needed. Thankfully his medicaid insurance starts August 1st.

Two years you have to wait after getting approved for social security disability before you are eligiable for medicaid. In the mean time, no insurance because with cancer you are uninsurable by anybody else.

So, these Quote "Legal aliens" can go piss in the wind if they think they are entitled to something that natural born Americans can't get. Makes me sick to see stories of people like that thinking "We Owe Them". News Flash Legal Aliens: We don't owe you nothing. If anybody owes anybody....you owe us.
