Drug rings broken up in Northeast KC, authorities say

Federal prosecutors announced a crackdown on drug trafficking in the Northeast area on Wednesday with the indictment of 23 people on narcotics, firearms and immigration charges.

Dubbed Operation Suspicious Minds, the investigation uncovered two drug conspiracies, each of which reaped about $1 million in proceeds, authorities alleged.

Law enforcement, both federal and local, has long focused on the Northeast area for its drug and immigration issues. U.S. Attorney John Wood said in a written statement that their efforts now have paid off with substantial cases.
