A sequel for the border czar

    By Ruben Navarrette

Alan Bersin is back in the headlines and back to pounding a familiar beat: the border. Last week, the Obama administration named the one-time rising star in the Clinton administration Justice Department as the nation's “border czar.â€

As such, it will not set well with either Mexican politicians or the Mexican media that the Obama administration thought it necessary to name a border czar before naming a U.S. ambassador to Mexico. While an ambassador builds bridges, a border czar builds fences.
And we should put the wishes of the Mexican government ahead of our own well-being because ????????????

If Navarrette doesn't like him we likely will.

    I concur with that!
Bersin has been very controversial is just about everything he's done. I still don't trust him, but I guess we will have to wait and see. I don't see him as being any sort of "saviour" for our border issues tho.

SicNTiredInSoCal, the border cannot be saved in isolation. What's needed is an explicit statement of Americans First in this magnificent country. We already have laws which can control employment and welfare, we can construct an H1-B visa program which does not permit applying for citizenship. The problem is that our elected representatives will not put Americans first.

The Judeo-Christian ethic encourages sharing, but we cannot share what we do not have. IMO it's unconscionable for elected reps to be pressing for benefits for illegals when Americans are losing their jobs, their homes, their savings, and their hope for a better future for their children.

I agree. I AM interested in hearing more on Bersin's views about this border issue. My only knowledge of him was what he did with the schools here in San Diego, and from what I know, there were a lot of unhappy people with that. I can hardly wait to see how this one turns out.
