The two men were hidden on a cargo vessel that transports tractor trailers.

FT. LAUDERDALE Fla.- On March 11, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers intercepted two stowaways that arrived aboard the Vessel MV Crowley, which is a cargo vessel that transports tractor trailers.

It began its journey in the Dominican Republic and then made a port of call in Haiti before arriving at Port Everglades Fl. Border Protection was notified of possible stowaways and met the vessel upon arrival. An incident command center was initiated and a perimeter was set with the assistance of the Broward Sherriff's Office and the Coast Guard.

The vessel and all of the tractor trailers were thoroughly searched by Field Operations Officers. Two Dominican men were taken into custody and processed by Customs and Border Protection Enforcement Officers. The Dominicans were then returned to the vessel and escorted under safeguard until the vessel was in open waters. The Dominicans will be repatriated upon arrival of the vessel in the Dominican Republic.

"This is an excellent example of how CBP is actively guarding our seaports to insure that illegal aliens do not enter the United States" said Harold Woodward Director of Field Operations for U. S. Customs and Border Protection in Miami.
