An Atlantic City man was sentenced to 20 years in New Jersey prison for the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend in an Atlantic City deli in 2011, according to acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain.Freddy R. Solorzano, 53, received a 20–year prison sentence on Tuesday for one count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter.

The Prosecutor's Office said, on April 21, 2011, Solorzano fatally stabbed Deziree Vivian, 27, of Factoryville, Pa., after she fled from him during an argument between the two.

Authorities said Solorzano chased Vivian down Pacific Avenue with a large butcher knife and Vivian ran into Babajan’s Deli to seek help. Solorzano followed Vivian inside of the deli and began

stabbing her — four times in the chest, penetrating her heart and one of her lungs, according to police.
Following the stabbing, Atlantic City Police arrested Solorzano at a residence on South Florida Avenue. He was charged with murder and weapons offenses. On August 22, 2012, Solorzano pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter, the Prosecutor's Office said.

Under the plea agreement, Solorzano could have been sentenced to 30 years in prison, but he was sentenced to 20. Assistant Prosecutor Harlee Stein, argued for the maximum sentence.

“The most dangerous time for a woman is when she attempts to leave a violent relationship, because it is at that time, her batterer faces losing his control over her. This defendant was determined to keep that control, even if it meant controlling the way her life would end,” stated Stein. “This was a cold-blooded calculated act of violence that didn’t have to be. He deserves no compassion from this Court.”

Solorzano must serve 85-percent, or approximately 17 years before he can become eligible for parole. He also has an ICE detainer lodged against him and would be deported from the U.S. upon completion of his sentence.
