Times-News
Authorities say a case of identity theft was foiled when the victim went to the Alamance County Department of Social Services for services, but was denied based on the amount of income reported with her Social Security number.
The victim, Kay Oliver of Burlington, has been physically unable to work for the past ten years and had no independent income, according to a sheriff's department press release.
The incident was investigated and deputies took out warrants charging Juan Antonio Arellano-Vazquez, 28, of Beth Hill Court, Asheville, with identity theft.
The Weaverville Police Department took him into custody, placed him under a $5,000 bond and transported him to the Alamance County jail.
Authorities processed him through the 287 (g) program and he was found to be in the country illegally. The press release stated a detainer has been filed against him for his illegal status.
