U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Brownsville Port of Entry have intercepted seven people so far this month in what officers say were attempts to enter the country illegally, CBP spokesman Eddie Perez said.

Officers also stopped two U.S. citizens from reportedly helping people cross without proper documen-tation, he said.

Seven females, one male and a child made up the nine intercepted this month.

Perez said officers determined that several of the people caught were using the birth certificates of others, or false laser visas.

One of the detainees, a 30-year-old man, had been deported twice before, Perez said. He also has con-victions in the Houston area for driving under the influence and for living illegally in the United States.
