Senate Candidates Offer Little Regarding Stance on Immigration

Giannoulias and Kirk unclear on how they would handle illegal immigration problem.

The head of a group that advocates for tighter immigration laws says he's disappointed in the timid views Illinois candidates for U.S. Senate have about immigration.

Candidates running for President Barack Obama's old seat responded to an Associated Press questionnaire on immigration. But few of the candidates had clear answers on what to do with the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S.

Democrat Alexi Giannoulias (jeh-NOO'-lee-ehs) says he supports a system that keeps families together, but didn't elaborate.

Meanwhile U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk, a Republican, sidestepped the question completely.

Mark Krikorian is the executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies. He says he wants to see Democrats and Republicans be more serious about enforcement.
