    (CNN) — Mexican police have arrested a man in connection with the death of a U.S. border patrol agent last week, according to a statement issued by authorities in Mexico.

    Jesus Navarro Montes is accused of running over a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent Saturday.

    Jesus Navarro Montes was arrested Tuesday in the town of El Yaqui, said the statement from Mexico’s attorney general.

    “Initial investigations indicated that Jesus Navarro Montes left Mexicali, Baja California, heading for the United States in a Hummer SUV that is believed to have contained drugs,â€

    I think extra scrutiny is way overdue in cases like this on the issue of the extradition of such arrested criminals in Mexico. As you all know, I'm sure, Mexico has a long-standing policy to refuse extradition if the accused could be up against capital punishment. This should not be allowed to remain as-is, here's why:

    1. It isn't reciprocal. (the reverse doesn't apply)

    2. The Mexican judicial system is wrought with corruption - there is no assurance that the perp's gang/cartel 'owners' can't step in and buy off the prosecuting judge, thus, the likelihood the perp ever 'sees' justice' is greatly diminished. (Not to mention, corruption here is a much rarer thing)

    3. I don't like it! GRRRR
