OTAY MESA — A man wanted on suspicion of kidnapping for ransom was arrested by federal agents Monday when he tried to enter the United States at the Otay border-crossing, authorities said.
Luis Angel Salgado, 27, was a passenger in a Honda Accord that stopped at the port of entry, heading north from Mexico, about 2 a.m., the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.
An officer held Salgado for further investigation. Fingerprint records showed he was wanted on a no-bail, felony warrant for kidnapping for ransom issued for the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, said Customs spokeswoman Jackie Dizdul.
Dizdul said Salgado was booked into county jail.
Sheriff's officials had no information available on the kidnapping case.

CBP Catches Alleged Kidnapper, Ten Others with Warrants
(Tuesday, August 17, 2010)
San Diego - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa port of entry Monday stopped a man wanted by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department on kidnapping charges.
At about 2 a.m., Luis Angel Salgado applied for admission into the United States at the border crossing as the passenger in a Honda Accord. The officer directed Salgado aside for further inspection.
CBP officers confirmed through fingerprint identification that Salgado, a 27-year-old U.S. citizen and resident of San Diego, was wanted on a no bail felony warrant for kidnapping for ransom, issued at the request of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Salgado is currently being held at the San Diego County Jail.
Also on Monday, CBP officers at other ports of entry along the California/Mexico border stopped an additional ten persons with active warrants for their arrest, for charges varying from probation violations and larceny, to charges related to drug offenses and other charges.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
