AZ - Court won't reconsider ruling in sanctions case
Court won't reconsider ruling in sanctions case
By JACQUES BILLEAUD- A federal appeals court that last year upheld Arizona's employer sanctions law has denied a request to reconsider its ruling.
The order Monday by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied a request by business groups to have the full court consider the case. The three-judge panel that upheld the law in September also denied a request to reconsider arguments.
The employer sanctions law penalizes businesses that knowingly hire illegal immigrants and requires them to verify the employment status of their workers.
Business and civil rights groups contend the law infringes on federal immigration powers, while lawyers for the state said the state is permitted to take actions against those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
