DPS officer injured detaining suspect on I-10 in Phoenix

A DPS officer and suspected undocumented immigrant were injured (Brian Pryor) A Department of Public Safety officer was injured as he tried to take an alleged undocumented immigrant into custody along Interstate 10 in Phoenix Monday morning.

At about 7:15 a.m., officers stopped to check on a truck broken down near 24th Street when between 15 and 30 people ran from the truck.

One officer suffered a broken wrist as he tried to take one of the men into custody, according to authorities.

The suspect was also injured in the scuffle and both went to Valley hospitals.

According to officials, 10 of the alleged undocumented immigrants ran into a nearby drainage ditch.

Phoenix police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are helping DPS search for them.

Phoenix police had 15 people in custody and DPS officers had eight people they were turning over to ICE officials.
