CA: Immigration Debated at the Border

    Immigration Debated at the Border

The debate over immigration reform took center stage Saturday near the border.

Congressman Duncan Hunter spoke out against the plan in Otay Mesa.

So did the pro-immigration Border Angels. The Border Angels held a vigil to remember a man killed by customs agents in 2006.

"This bill will cause a stampede for America's borders," Hunter said. "When we passed the last amnesty in 1986, we wrote the fine print that says no one else is allowed to come over. People did not even hesitate."

"Is it realistic to say they're going to go back home to get their passport stamped?" asked Enrique Morones, president of the Border Angels. "And how about the people that are from Mexico--$5,000 is a lot of money."

The Senate will pick up the debate on immigration reform next week.

It's a crying shame Congressman Hunter doesn't get more media coverage for what he is attempting to do.
