King County prosecutors have charged a 21-year-old Kent man with vehicular homicide and reckless driving in connection with a crash Sunday in Renton that killed a 56-year-old woman.
Gilardo Celestino-Flores had a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit and was driving the wrong way when his pickup plowed into a Honda containing Karen Pegors and her 60-year-old husband, Daniel, prosecutors allege.
The crash occurred about 6 p.m. in the 19000 block of 108th Avenue Southeast. When police arrived, they found the Honda's passenger side completely smashed in. Karen Pegors was dead.
Celestino-Flores smelled of alcohol, prosecutors allege. Police found an open bottle of beer in his truck. A blood test showed his blood-alcohol level at 0.26 percent. The legal limit is 0.08.
Witnesses said Celestino-Flores was driving northbound in the southbound lanes and was speeding, prosecutors said.
He is being held in jail with bail set at $75,000. He also is being held by immigration officials, who say he is in the country illegally.
Arraignment was set for May 20 at the Regional Justice Center in Kent.
