    U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: January 8 - January 14

    (01/14/2009)Border Patrol agents seized over 3,311 pounds of marijuana valued at $2,647,616. Agents arrested 8 criminal aliens and 7 gang members. There were 10 rocking incidents.

    Reported on January 8, 2009


    Buffalo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico at the bus station in Rochester, New York. During processing, agents discovered the subject had a lengthy criminal record and was a member of the 18th Street Gang.


    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents took custody of an illegal alien from Mexico near Albuquerque, New Mexico. The subject was arrested by State law enforcement officials after he was discovered living in New Mexico. The subject was wanted for murder in Mexico and records checks revealed he was previously removed from the United States.

    San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Ethiopia near San Diego, California. Records checks revealed the subject had been convicted of various narcotics violations and was a documented gang member.


    San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tecate, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a no-bail warrant from the State of California for misdemeanor sexual penetration of a foreign object to a minor incapable of consent.

    Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a national of Mexico and seized 169 pounds of marijuana valued at $135,040 near Eagle Pass, Texas. Agents encountered the subject after he failed to yield to a traffic stop. The subject was later involved in a single vehicle accident, and agents discovered 100 bundles of marijuana in his car. The subject was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.


    Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico, 14 illegal aliens from Guatemala, and seized a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan near Bushland, Texas.

    Blaine Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Canada and seized $19,573 in U.S. currency near Blaine, Washington. The subject was observed entering the country illegally, and the money was discovered when he was searched.


    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ysleta, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Paisas gang. Records checks also revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States as an aggravated felon and had an extensive criminal history for possession of controlled substances.


    Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,692 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,353,216 in U.S. currency, a Peterbilt tractor-trailer, and arrested a United States Citizen (USC) at the traffic checkpoint in Laredo, Texas. The subject presented himself and the tractor-trailer for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. An inspection of the trailer revealed 89 bundles of marijuana concealed inside a load of drywall.


    Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,392 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,113,280, a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the Interstate Highway 83 traffic checkpoint near Laredo, Texas. The subject presented himself and the tractor-trailer for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search of the trailer revealed the marijuana concealed within its cargo.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC for an outstanding warrant at the Highway 70 traffic checkpoint near Alamogordo, New Mexico. The subject was a passenger in a vehicle presented for inspection at the checkpoint. A canine search revealed marijuana residue inside the vehicle. Records checks were negative for the driver of vehicle, but the subject had an active arrest warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and fleeing issued from the State of New Mexico.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender and had an outstanding arrest warrant issued in the State of Wisconsin.

    El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. During processing it was revealed that the subject was a member of the 18th Street Gang. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and had an extensive criminal record.


    Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Rio Grande City, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject was wanted for murder in Mexico.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Douglas, Arizona. Records checks revealed charges were pending against the subject for rape by force/fear and lewd and lascivious acts with a child less than 14 years of age.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sonoita, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was a convicted sex offender and had an arrest warrant for violation of probation issued in the State of California.


    Yuma Sector – Border Patrol agents observed a Chevrolet Tahoe attempt to drive across the Colorado River near Yuma, Arizona. As agents converged, the vehicle became disabled. Agents observed an armed subject with an assault-type rifle assisting the driver of the disabled vehicle. The Tahoe was freed, and the vehicle and both subjects retreated into Mexico.

    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Sells, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject is a convicted sex offender.


    Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien near Cowlic, Arizona. During processing, it was discovered the subject was a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had two prior driving under the influence convictions and had twice been removed from the United States.
