U.S. Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: September 18 – September 24

(09/24/2008)Border Patrol agents seized over 10,257 pounds of marijuana valued at $8,203,928. Agents arrested 9 criminal aliens and 5 gang members. There were 10 rocking incidents.

San Diego Sector - Border Patrol agents reported that several unidentified subjects assaulted agents with rocks on the U.S. side of the international border near the Otay Mesa, California Port of Entry. Agents deployed less lethal munitions and all of the subjects retreated into Mexico without further incident.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tombstone, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and was a convicted sex offender in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Riviera, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and was a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 1,132 pounds of marijuana valued at $905,600 and an abandoned 1992 Ford F-150 pickup near Salineno, Texas. Agents observed the vehicle drive to the Rio Grande River and meet with a boat. Several bundles were unloaded from the boat and into the vehicle. The vehicle then drove away from the Rio Grande River. Shortly thereafter, agents found the vehicle containing the marijuana abandoned in the brush.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 5,070 pounds of marijuana valued at $4,056,048, a 1999 Chevrolet 1500 truck, and recovered a stolen 2004 Chevrolet 1500 truck near Why, Arizona. Agents observed the tire tracks of two vehicles near the international border, and followed them to the abandoned trucks loaded with marijuana.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and was a convicted sex offender in Dodge County, Georgia.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 136 pounds of marijuana valued at $107,080, a loaded rifle, four loaded rifle magazines, and a 9mm handgun near Amado, Arizona. Agents received a report of twelve unidentified subjects walking through the brush and responded to the area. The agents encountered the subjects who abandoned the bundles and weapons they were carrying and absconded.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was previously deported from the United States and convicted of 1st degree vehicular homicide in Tattnall County, Georgia.

El Centro Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico west of the Calexico, California Port of Entry. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and was a registered sex offender in the state of Washington.

Yuma Sector - Border Patrol agents rescued and arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in San Luis, Arizona. The subject fell into a canal while attempting to avoid arrest and then appeared to be in distress. Agents entered the water and pulled the subject to safety.

El Centro Sector - Border Patrol agents seized 1,376 pounds of marijuana valued at $1,100,800 and recovered a stolen 2005 Dodge Ram truck near Ocotillo, California. After receiving a report of a vehicle illegally entering the United States, an agent responded to the area and found several bundles of marijuana on the ground near the vehicle’s route of travel. Shortly thereafter, agents found the vehicle abandoned and discovered more bundles of marijuana inside.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested two United States Citizens (USC) and seized 2,543 pounds of marijuana valued at $2,034,400, a 2005 Ford F-350 truck, and a 2006 Sierra RV trailer at the Falfurrias, Texas traffic checkpoint. Both subjects presented themselves and their vehicles for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to contraband hidden in the trailer. A search of the RV trailer revealed the narcotics concealed inside a false compartment on its front wall.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tucson, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and was a registered sex offender in Lincoln County, Oregon.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested 26 illegal aliens and seized a 2000 Cadillac Deville, a 1999 Mercury Cougar, and a 2000 Ford Taurus in Palmview, Texas. The agents came upon the vehicles as they were being loaded with the illegal aliens. Three subjects were found in the trunk of the Cadillac and an additional three subjects were found in the trunk of the Ford. The drivers of the three vehicles absconded and were not located.

Tucson Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Nogales, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject was previously deported from the United States and was a convicted sex offender.

Del Rio Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Eagle Pass, Texas. The subject admitted to being a member of the Mexican Mafia gang. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and had an extensive criminal history including convictions for burglary and resisting arrest.

El Paso Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near the Santa Teresa, New Mexico Port of Entry. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Barrio Azteca gang. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and had an extensive criminal history including convictions for assault on a public servant and engaging in organized crime.

Rio Grande Valley Sector - Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Guatemala near Riviera, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject was previously removed from the United States and was convicted of armed robbery in the State of Florida.
