I find it strange that Shapleigh chooses to cite Theodore Roosevelt in his statements. Maybe we should flood him with Roosevelt's Immigration Speech!

RodrĂ*guez, Shapleigh, weigh in on border violence and immigration issues

EL PASO, July 10 - El Paso County Attorney JosĂ© RodrĂ*guez, one of the driving forces behind the Texas Border Coalition, has reiterated his opposition to local law enforcement handling immigration issues.


RodrĂ*guez made his comments before a joint hearing of the Senate Committee on Transportation and Homeland Security and Senate Committee on International Relations and Trade, which met in El Paso on Wednesday.


He said any proposed Texas legislation that would mandate local police to enforce federal immigration law would create the potential for loss of immigrants’ trust and cooperation with local police and prosecutors and thereby destroy local community policing efforts.


“Instead of promoting border security, local law enforcement of immigration would create more insecurity,â€
