PHOENIX - Two illegal immigrants were arrested for allegedly conducting a small counterfeit money ring, according to DPS.

Harold Sanders with DPS says they printed over 55 thousand dollars in fake bills.

"There are a couple of ways that you purchase counterfeit money," said Sanders. "With real money, so to give you a number, let's say 50 to 60 thousand dollars can be purchased for probably about 16 to 17 thousand dollars of legitimate US currency."

Sanders says this is one of the largest counterfeit money rings DPS has seen.

"It's unfortunate, I don't want to give any credit to them," said Sanders. "But unfortunately, these individuals seem to know what they were doing. They were producing some pretty good counterfeit money."

He says this money was most likely going to be used for drug trafficking.

Both men face two felony charges for fraudulent schemes and forgery charges.
