Border Patrol agents to guard troops
    Aug 17, 2006, 18:01 GMT

WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) -- U.S. Border Patrol agents are now required to protect National Guard troops deployed along the U.S.-Mexico border, The Washington Times reports.

The National Guard troops were sent to relieve Border Patrol agents but they need protection since they are not allowed to carry loaded weapons, reports the Times.

The newspaper said Border Patrol agents in Arizona have been issued standing orders to be within five minutes of National Guard troops along the border. The report said Border Patrol units have been pulled from other regions for bodyguard service, leaving those regions short-handed.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman told the Times the Guard units do not have enforcement authority but only to report illegal entries to the Border Patrol.

Border Patrol agents told the Times they call their new duty 'the nanny patrol,' which, the report says, comes despite the growing border violence against Border Patrol agents and other personnel.

There are 6,200 Guard troops deployed along the border from California to Texas.

From what I've heard that is not true. Hard to find guard troops along the border. Probably what few are on the border are being protected.
    What a sham!

According to Jorge BOOSH, all 6,000 of them are on the border. BUT WE KNOW BETTER!
I'm wagering only half of this number are actually on the physical border.

Guess they might need protecting seeing as how Bush relieved them of their guns before sending them down to do a dangerous job on the border. This is one of the most complete waste of taxpayers money, but then again most of what the government spends is a complete waste of taxpayers money!

Another ploy to take American's minds off of whats realy going on down there. Are we really to believe Mr. Bush is protecting our border with un armed troops? Were are not stupid! Militarize the border, screw Fox, lets show the world we are commited to our countries needs before we try to fix the world.
