ICE removes Japanese national convicted of terror attack on US Embassy

ALEXANDRIA, La. — A Japanese man who served nearly 20 years in federal prison for his participation in a 1986 rocket attack on the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, was removed from the United States Thursday by officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).

Tsutomu Shirosaki, 67, was convicted in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in February 1998 of assault with intent to murder, attempted destruction of buildings, attempted murder of internationally protected persons and violent attack on official premises of internationally protected persons.

According to court documents, Shirosaki participated in the May 1986 attack on the U.S. and Japanese embassies in Jakarta, during which three homemade rockets were fired and a car bomb was set off outside a building housing Canada’s diplomatic mission. Shirosaki participated in the attack as a member of the Japanese Red Army.

ERO officers took Shirosaki into immigration custody in January following his release from federal prison in Yazoo City, Miss.

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will continue to focus its removal resources on violent criminals and other high-priority aliens who pose the greatest threat to our communities," said ICE Director Sarah R. Saldaña.

Shirosaki was removed Thursday by ERO officers accompanied by Japanese National Police officers via commercial aircraft from the Alexandria International Airport in Alexandria to Narita Airport in Tokyo. ERO officers transferred Shirosaki into Japanese law enforcement custody upon arrival in the country Friday where he faces additional felony prosecution.

Since Oct. 1, 2009, ERO has removed more than 720 foreign fugitives from the United States who were being sought in their native countries for serious crimes, including kidnapping, rape and murder. ERO works with the ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Office of International Affairs, foreign consular offices in the United States, and Interpol to identify foreign fugitives illegally present in the country.

In fiscal year 2014, ERO removed 315,943 individuals from the United States. In addition to convicted criminals, the agency's enforcement priorities include those apprehended while attempting to unlawfully enter the United States, illegal re-entrants – individuals who returned to the United States after being previously removed by ICE – and immigration fugitives.

In fiscal year 2014, 98 percent of ICE removals met these priorities.

All that and he only gets 20 years? Are you serious?! Under US law a kid convicted 3 times of smoking pot gets a life sentence. This guy bombs a US embassy and only gets 20 years?!

What kind of bull crap is that?! 1998, Clinton? Really? 20 years for bombing a US Embassy? That's it?

Clinton. Ugh! The more we learn, the worse we see that it all is.

The U.S. taxpayers have been paying for his food, clothing and medical care for the last 20 years. Now we send him home so Japan can pay for him for the rest of his life.

A Japanese man, recently freed after nearly 20 years in federal prison for his role in the 1986 rocket attack on the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, was returned from Louisiana to Japan Friday. On arrival, he was immediately arrested to face charges of involvement in a similar attack on Japan's Jakarta embassy.

Tsutomi Shirosaki, 67, was convicted in 1998 for joining in the assault on the U.S. embassy. According to court documents, Shirosaki, identified by Japanese media as a member of the radical Japanese Red Army, participated in the attack on the two embassies - using three homemade rockets. The reports said the attacks included a car bomb set off outside a building housing Canada's diplomatic mission to Indonesia.

After his release from federal prison in Yazoo City, Miss. January 16, he was taken into custody by the Enforcement and Removal Operations Unit of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's bureau.

U.S. Enforcement and Removal Operations agents, along with Japanese National Police Officers, escorted him on commercial flights from Alexandria, La., to Tokyo's Narita airport, where he arrived Friday and was immediately taken into custody.

Initially, he is being accused of arson, according to Japanese media, for allegedly setting a fire to a hotel room in Jakarta, which police allege was an effort to destroy evidence of the earlier mortar attacks on the Japanese and U.S. embassies.

Shirosaki has a long history with Japanese law enforcement.

In was arrested for attempted bank robbery in Japan and sentenced to 10-years in prison in 1971. He was freed in 1977, along with other prisoners, in return for the release of hostages taken in the hijacking of a Japan Airlines plane in Dhaka, Bangladesh, according to Japanese media reports.

U.S. immigration officials say that they are putting a priority on deporting convicted criminals, and those attempting to unlawfully enter the United States.

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will continue to focus its removal resources on violent criminals and other high-priority aliens who pose the great threat to our communities," said Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Sarah Saldana.

Since Oct 1, 2009, ICE officials say that more than 720 foreign fugitives from the United States who were being sought by their native nations for serious crimes, including kidnaping, rape and murder, were sent back to those nations to face criminal charges.

The ones in jail, leave there. Removing a prisoner serving his time is not a priority issue. Let all the Americans in jail for dope charges free, make that a priority, and leave these illegals and foreign nationals already in jail in jail. This Japanese guy wasn't even an illegal alien to begin with was he? Wasn't he extradited into the US for prosecution for what he did in Indonesia?

Well, let us know when you start deporting those who unlawfully entered the United States. The last we've heard is you're shutting down DHS clinging to the ability to give over half of them amnesty complete with welfare, tax refunds for tax they didn't pay, jobs and any and everything else they need to steal a life from an American to improve theirs.

Not a dime, Republicans, not a dime. Hold the line. Stand your ground.
