NC: State to set up drunk driving checkpoints
State to set up drunk driving checkpoints
Raleigh, NC, 08.08.2008
AP
North Carolina law enforcement is cracking down on drunken driving in an attempt to get motorists to comply better with the state's law.
Gov. Mike Easley said that on Friday police officers will ramp up their efforts to enforce the state's .08 blood alcohol concentration limit as part of the ``Booze It and Lose It'' campaign.
Across the state, law enforcement will set up checkpoints and increase patrols to locate drunk drivers. State officials said they hope the enforcement measure will encourage more residents to comply with the law.
Last year, almost 500 North Carolinians died from alcohol-related crashed and more than 9,000 were severely injured.

Well said, Zeezil. And there is no reason to announce the location of these checkpoints. As a drunk driver, I would just somehow through the booze or drug haze check my map and circumvent.

My thoughts exactly Zeezil

It's 7:00 PM here in Joliet ILL. I just got a door to door person from my gas company (Nicor)....wanting me to fill out papers and an ID check for my service. How do you respond to this? My gas bill was almost 200.00 bucks this month.....but my DAD had it on some senior saver discount thingie. You know....pay more now so you aren't creamed in the winter. Monthly budget and all that. I've just done it. Figured since Dad lived here his whole life....he wouldn't sign up for something that wasn't good. Usually, by the beginning of the year....I get about 2 mos. free from gas....I have yet to have an actual owed gas bill......I always have a credit. Thought that was ok......now she tells me it's not. I am supposidly getting ripped. But they had an "alert"......guess I used my dryer a bit more than I used to......I have a 232.00 CREDIT and they have an ALERT on my bill?......I went .......0.15 above my average., Anyone have any advice about this? This is something I never experienced before.

Don't feel alone, crazybird. About two months ago there was this type of person at my door (a sub company working for our precious ATT). Although I challenged her when she asked me for my phone number, she came back immediately with the correct one. Since ATT now has the landline, the Internet access and my cell phone through purchases of formerly free companies, I decided it would be wise to sign the bundling plan to save money on all the separate charges for the three formerly independent services. I was a tad taken back when I got the next phone bill, as the charges did not bundle my cell into the package, and the bill for phone and Internet access was about $50 higher than I paid before.
My answer from now on will be "send me something in the mail" as I often do with all those solicitors for charity, or whatever way they are trying to get money out of us.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Crazybird - I guess I don't understand. If you have a credit why would they put an 'alert' on the bill? I'm not sure but definitely call and speak to a manager and if they don't resolve it for you, put in a BBB complaint.
I recently had a problem with my propane company. We signed and faxed something to lock in a rate for a year in February but they said they 'lost it' so they were trying to give us a much higher rate, something like 1.00 more per gallon. We argued with them over this and they finally gave us a rate in between. A few days later my husband found the fax confirmation sheet so we were able to prove that we did sign for the lower rate. They STILL said they didn't receive that one so we put in a BBB complaint and within days everything was taken care of. They were finally motivated to help us but what a pain. We are stuck with them because their tank is buried in our yard, otherwise I would switch.
Regarding the DUI checkpoints - they need to set them up from 3-8AM because that's when the majority of drunk illegals are out causing accidents.
