Yuma sector agents of the U.S. Border Patrol apprehended 27 illegal aliens Friday morning after three vehicles crossed the border near the Cocopah Reservation.

At 8 a.m., agents responded to the area. When they began following, two of the vehicles stopped and the occupants fled on foot, said Michael Gramley, spokesman for Border Patrol's Yuma sector.

"Seven subjects fled back into Mexico, including both drivers," Gramley said.

Of the 27 apprehended, all were said to be Mexican nationals. Seven were females, and there were no children, Gramley said.

Agents radioed ahead and a Cocopah police officer spotted the third vehicle. The vehicle then turned and fled back to Mexico.

One of the vehicles apprehended was a Ford F-350 pickup that had been stolen from San Diego. Gramley said the truck was turned over to Cocopah police.

The other vehicle, a 1989 Ford pickup with a camper shell, was seized by the Border Patrol.
