GOP seeks more immigration enforcement
http://www.kfsm.com/Global/story.asp?S=6699906
CAPITOL HILL (AP) - Republican lawmakers trying to attract more GOP support for immigration reform legislation are trying to add requirements to track down, deport and permanently bar people who overstay their visas.
The Senate will consider that and other amendments to a broad, compromise measure next week and the bill could see a final vote by the end of the month.
The Republican amendment on overstaying visas would also prevent illegal immigrants from gaining lawful status until they pass a background check.
Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl, who helped craft the main bill, says the amendment should be a big help in convincing skeptical Republicans to support the White House-backed compromise.
Conservative critics say the bill would give amnesty to lawbreakers. And some Republican lawmakers say their constituents have no faith that laws cracking down on illegal immigrants would be enforced."Ask not what your country can do for you --ask what you can do for your country" John F. Kennedy

All the laws in the world don't help if they are not enforced. We need to see enforcement before anything else happens. DHS cannot even get the virtual fence up and running. 1639 allows people to continue to enter for two years and just have documentation that they were here Jan 2007. How many more illegals are going to enter during that time. We know that illegals lie and produce false documentation. How can we trust them or the government?
