Waukegan votes not to reconsider immigrant measure
16 mins ago - Officials will not reconsider a proposal that could lead to local police enforcing federal immigration laws, a measure that has galvanized activists on both sides of the issue in this city north of Chicago. The 8-2 vote by the Waukegan City Council Monday night allows police to apply for a special program through U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as early as Tuesday. Once trained, officers could identify, process and detain immigration offenders they come across on the job.

This is great news. I know a couple of cities in Ohio that could also use this law.

We are trying to get it passed here(287g) in Forsyth County N.C. We need all the help we can get. If you have time email our Commissioners.

    287(g)

This is great but I talked with Wendy with Mayor Womack's office in Rogers, AR. today and they still have not been approved some 9 months after their vote to apply for the 287(g).

This is great news, but I sure hope the ACLU doesn't screw it up.

This is one avenue the ACLU can't screw up. It's federal law. No judge will over turn it. It legally delegates federal powers to local law enforcement. It's a force multiplier for ICE. I wish they were able to grant this to every sheriff in the country.

Have any illegal aliens sued the police for using 287g powers though? We have someone threatening this on our town board already.

2 steps forward 10 steps back,

    Lets talk the truth!

First of all, people know that its only 2 pigs (wpd) that will have that power!

These people know that 287g gives any cop the authority (if the government approves it) to PULL THEM OVER FOR NO REASON & ask to see if they are or not legal here.
(How can they tell if you are or not?)
