SANTA FE - New Mexico officials are warning residents that their addresses may be used by criminals to fraudulently obtain driver's licenses for foreign nationals.

The Taxation and Revenue Department said Wednesday it's working with the U.S. Postal Service and federal authorities to investigate the scam.

The names and addresses of New Mexicans are taken from telephone books and used to submit a postal change of address form to forward mail to an out-of-state address. Forged documents with the New Mexico addresses are then used to try to obtain a driver's license.

The agency said New Mexicans should contact authorities if they receive a change of address notice from the Postal Service but hadn't requested their mail to sent elsewhere.
