Supporters of Arizona-style immigration legislation made an emotional plea to legislators Wednesday to clamp down on illegal immigration, warning of drug cartels and terrorism if the state fails to act.

Security was pervasive on Capitol Hill, as nearly 100 people filled the hearing room and dozens more listened from an overflow room nearby. A show of hands before the meeting indicated about 80 percent of those on hand were supportive of the bill.

Arturo Morales, a legal immigrant from Mexico, praised Rep. Stephen Sandstrom’s proposal to require local police to enforce federal immigration law as a courageous move.

Morales, who came to the United States on a student visa and married a citizen, said he has talked to victims of document fraud, businesses that had to compete against those that hire undocumented workers, and other victims of immigration.

“I am completely outraged to see people completely oblivious and people who choose to ignore the pain and suffering of those victims,â€

I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Considering the way another recent Utah immigration issues hearing went it is wonderful to see that this one was not highjacked and subverted by the amnestyists. Utah is attracting illegal aliens moving from Arizona and needs to protect itself.
