An 18-year-old Tucson man was arrested after authorities found a stash of weapons in the upholstery of the back seat of the truck he was driving.
He was stopped at the Douglas port of entry Saturday at approximately 10 a.m. by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers who were screening traffic from the United Stated into Mexico.
The officers became suspicious of the 2000 Ford F-250 and utilized a special team of dogs trained to detect weapons and money, according to a news release from the CBP.
It was during that time that the officers found three 12-gauge pump action shotguns, three assault rifles with high capacity magazines, a compact short barreled assault weapon and ammunition for the three assault rifles. The weapons, vehicle and ammunition were seized, the news release said.
The man was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for questioning.
