SAN CLEMENTE – Border Patrol agents arrested eight Mexican nationals who landed by boat on the San Clemente shoreline early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Border Patrol agents spotted a suspicious boat traveling northbound in the darkness with no navigation lights about 2:45 a.m., and watched vessel come ashore at Calafia State Beach, authorities said.

Several people jumped from the beached boat and ran toward nearby cliffs, officials said.

Border Patrol agents caught and questioned eight men, determining that they were Mexican nationals who had entered the county illegally, officials said.

Authorities say the men, whose ages ranged from 25 to 39, were taken to a nearby Border Patrol station, while the boat was seized.
