FTAA Drugs : Killing the Poor and the Old. Social Darwinism

FTAA Drugs : Killing the Poor and the Old. Social Darwinism

    22 September 2005

I have not found the Web Page of "La Republica" for September 21, Wednesday, 2005

Rosalba Cubillos, Journalist and Reporter is today in Cartagena, Colombia, spying on the discussions for the Andean FTA that take place there today.

She tells us about the drugs and "generics" according to the Andean FTA.
Generics are drugs with expired patents and they are 2 thirds of the Colombian Market. They are indispensable for the Poor, Old and Weak to survive.

But I have here in my hands the Real Newspaper and I can summarize the grave and dangerous things that she has discovered in these secret conversations.

The Big US Farmaceutical Industry is crazy for milking the Colombian Market and extending the patents many years more than authorized by the US legislation, Colombian Legislation and the World Trade Organization.

In order to earn a penny more they are ready to kill thousands of old, poor and weak people.

This seems to be written by DR Mengele.

The Colombian Laboratories that sell "generic" drugs ( with patents expired everywhere ) will be ruined in favor of the Big Multinational Corporations.

They have devised a scheme to prolong the business more years after the patent expires. They have devised how to throw obstacles to the "generic" patent in order to continue charging 4 or 5 times more for the same drug.

That is the relation between the patented drug and the generic drug : 4 to 5 times more expensive.

The U. S. wants to impose their patents on Yagé and Ayahuasca, on Curare and all plants discovered by the South American Indians 10,000 years ago.

Yes, there is an American Patent for Yagé. Incredible !!

It is very likey that many Andean animals are already patented in the USA or soon to be patented.

The tiny rainbow toads of my country may be already patented inside the USA. So every useful drug that is obtained from them is subject to royalties and abusive earnings by the Big Pharmaceuticals.

The Big Pharmaceuticals were very enthusiastic about approving CAFTA and they paid more than 10 times to U. S. Congressmen as the "Big Sugar" Lobby.

The power of Big Sugar is ridiculous compared to Merk, Pfizzer, Abbot, ...etc ... They earn 1000 times more money.

    Social Darwinism :

Herbert Spencer 1820ÂÂ* - 1903 created "Social Darwinism".

The poor should be abandoned to their lot, they were genetically inferior. This was married with Eugenesics and Frenology.

There was a lot of Nazism, Racism and Supremacism before Hitler took over in Germany. These Eugenesics were applied mainly in the Northern Hemisphere and Australia.

If you saw the Australian Movie "Jessica" .... you can see that Aboriginal Children were snatched from their parents to save them from an "Inferior Culture".

Many "Pefectly Aryan" non-Jewish Children were killed in Germany because they pissed their beds or were slightly retarded.

It seems that "Social Darwinism" is returning. The Peasantry of the Andes is going to be destroyed with the competition of American Cereals and their big subsidies. And the Neoliberal theory is that they should be evicted and displaced.

They will be beggars and will increase the pressure to destroy the Environement.

This will create big Pressure for EMIGRATION in all classes of Andean Society.

An Immigrant is always first and Emigrant.

If we protect the threatened gorillas and chimpanzees, then shouldn't humans be protected ??

Rakishoner : Thanks for your post

Rakishoner : Thanks for your post

We can work together posting in English and Spanish in may Political Websites and awakening the conscience.

There are many tricks to prolong patents establishing time periods after the patent expires and creating a lot of obstacles and barriers to the generic drugs.

I have heard that South Africa and other governments plagued by the AIDS disease have rebelled against the Big Pharmaceuticals. The same for Brazil.

I don't blame the Americans. We should work together against these powers of the Super Rich for Destruction.

I have heard that some Old and Sick Americans have been also exploited by Big Multinational Pharmaceuticals. But I ignore the how and the methods of such abuses.

Pharmaceuticals were very enthusiastic for CAFTA and NAFTA. They contribute billions to Political causes.

Their next steps are Andean FTA and FTAA. ( Free Trade Agreement of the Americas )

I have no problem using cheaper generic drugs but it appears there is now a growing market for counterfeits. Since there is no regulations or controls on their manufacturing that puts the public at a greater risk. I would imagine CAFTA, NAFTA, and other free trade agreements are contributing to the problem. Here's an article I ran across today on fake drugs.

Artificial drugs - a major menace for Europe

    12:14 2005-09-22
Counterfeit Viagra, antibiotics and other drugs are on the rise in Europe, leading international pharmaceutical and health care experts caution, blaming insufficient cross-border cooperation.

Meeting at a three-day conference organized by the Council of Europe, government officials, law enforcement officers, doctors and pharmaceutical experts from Europe and the United States called Thursday for tighter criminal legislation, better public awareness campaigns and a central point for collecting information on fake drugs.

They warned that the rise in counterfeit medicines could undermine patients' confidence in public health care.

"It is worrying that there is no recognized central reference point in Europe entrusted with surveillance, trend analysis and policy recommendations in the field of counterfeit medicines," said Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, deputy secretary general of the Council of Europe, the continent's leading human rights body.

"This situation helps the counterfeiters, who can rely on international co-operation gaps in Europe," she said. "Even when they are caught, they far too often get away with administrative fines with no deterrent effect."

Counterfeit medicines make up for approximately 10 percent of the European pharmaceutical market - up from close to zero 10 years ago - and often are supplied by international criminal rings, the World Health Organization says.

In Russia, some 20 percent of all drugs distributed are fake, while in Mexico it is 40 percent and in Nigeria as much as 80 percent, Council of Europe and WHO statistics show.

Counterfeit medicines often are packaged like the genuine product and are hard to detect. Lifestyle drugs, such as Viagra, and essential medicines such as antibiotics and insulin are particularly popular with counterfeiters, but there's also an increasing number of fake contact lenses and even materials such as surgical mesh.

Experts warned that purchasing health products over the Internet poses a major health risk as such drugs often have not been approved by a competent health authority.

A study conducted by the U.S. General Accounting Office in 2004 showed that four out of 21 medicines ordered from Web sites outside the United States or Canada were fake.

The conference, which runs through Friday, focuses on identifying ways to detect fake drugs, combating distribution and drawing up guidelines to protect the public, the AP reports.
