Judge: Border group can't be part of Az. immigration case

PHOENIX - A federal judge rejected a request by a volunteer border-watch group to become a party in the federal government's challenge to Arizona's immigration enforcement law.

The denial marks the second time that U.S. Judge Susan Bolton has denied such a request from the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.

The group had argued that it should be made part of the case because it's important for the court to hear from groups that have an interest in the enforcement of immigration laws.

Bolton says in an order Thursday that the group didn't convince her that her previous ruling was in error or that the judge abused her discretion.

The most controversial sections of the law were put on hold by Bolton about 11 months ago.
