JACUMBA, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from the El Centro Sector located two men in the mountains who were lost and in distress on Thursday morning.

At approximately 8 a.m., the El Centro Sector Radio Communications received a call from a 9-1-1 dispatcher about a distress call from a man who said he and another man were lost and in need of assistance.

The dispatcher provided Border Patrol agents with the man’s location via GPS coordinates gathered by his mobile phone. Agents relayed the information to agents working with the National Guard and advised that they were in route in a Blackhawk helicopter to assist with the search.

At 8:10 a.m., agents in the helicopter located the two men and were able to land near them. The Border Search Trauma and Rescue Team (BORSTAR) medically evaluated the men and they stated that they did not need further medical attention.

The men, both adults, were determined to be illegal aliens from Mexico. They were placed under arrest and were transported to the El Centro Sector rally point to be expelled back to their country of origin.
