Prison warden to discuss inmate fights in Tucson
By Danielle Sottosanti
ARIZONA DAILY STAR
The warden of the Arizona State Prison Complex in Tucson has scheduled a news conference for this afternoon to discuss an inmate fight that resulted in a lockdown at the Wilmot prison Friday.
Visitors to the prison are being turned away today, following the fight that left four inmates with possible life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The fight between Mexican-American and Mexican prisoners at the Arizona State Prison Complex in Tucson involved at least 20 inmates at the prison's Santa Rita Tent Unit, according to a statement from the Arizona Department of Corrections.
A news release indicates the inmates used weapons during the assault but does not specify what types of weapons were used or the nature of the injuries suffered by the inmates.
The Department of Corrections reported four injuries, but the Tucson Fire Department transported six inmates, said Capt. Trish Tracy, a Tucson Fire Department spokeswoman.
Four of the inmates had possible life-threatening injuries and two were transported with minor injuries, Tracy said.
Others were treated at the scene. No Department of Correction staff members were injured.
Signs at the entrance to the prison today noted that visitation was suspended until further notice.
Friday's incident was the third reported fight among inmates this year that resulted in a prison lockdown.

This is the second time in a week they fought. The previous one injured 9 corrections officers. One of the TV stations said it was "gangs" but you see the paper didn't use that term.Illegal aliens remain exempt from American laws, while they DEMAND American rights...

The thing that I find interesting is how we seem to not want to acknowledge how much money is spent just taking care of the everyday occurrences that illegals contribute. In Phoenix we have at least one kidnapping per day of an illegal of an illegal. Since this is a hostage type situation I'm sure there are a minimum of four people that art assigned to deal with this on a daily basis. Probably more in reality. What is the cost of these four investigators?
If you lived in Arizona you would hear about this stuff daily. Not to mention the rapes, animal abuse, car thefts, schooling issues, dead bodies in the desert. It never really stops with these people.
How can a reasonable person say this helps our society AND that NOT enforcing our laws actually helps us?

Warden: No segregation despite 2 fights at prison
The warden at the Arizona State Prison Complex in Tucson said Saturday that he won't segregate prisoners by their ethnic group despite two fights in the past week that left about two dozen inmates hurt and nine prison officers injured.
Both brawls involved large numbers of Mexican-American and Mexican national inmates facing off, but it isn't yet known if the fights were connected, Warden Greg Fizer said.
Although the fact that the fights happened so close together - one on Tuesday and one Friday night - suggested they may be connected, that hasn't been conclusively shown, Fizer said.
"It does involve the same racial heritage groups, but we don't know yet it they were related," Fizer said. "We won't move into the arena of segregating the Mexican nationals from the Mexican-Americans - we won't go there."
All prisoners were locked in their cells and visitation has been canceled for the weekend, Fizer said.
Prison staff are investigating and also are reviewing operational security.
"We want to make sure that public safety has been ensured and that we have a good idea of what caused the situation so we don't put anyone at risk," Fizer said.
Friday night's fight involved about 45 inmates in one part of the prison's Santa Rita Tent Unit.
No guards were hurt, but roughly 20 inmates were injured and five hospitalized. Four have since been released.
The inmates were wielding a variety of "fairly benign" weapons, including broken broom and mop handles, Fizer said.
A fight in another area on Tuesday sent nine officers to the hospital, although none were admitted. Three inmates were hospitalized.
That incident began in the dining hall with a small number of inmates and spread to a recreation yard.
The Tucson prison houses about 4,000 inmates.

Separating them is probably against their civil liberties.
What about ours and how much money we spend on protecting these dopes. Their own culturally violent garbage costs us so much money.
