WEST PALM BEACH — A Boca Raton man Monday pleaded guilty for his role in a wide-ranging scheme to bribe driver's license officials with money paid by illegal immigrants, desperate to get official documents.

Rene Clairvoyant, 59, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit unlawful compensation for official behavior and conspiracy to commit official misconduct.

He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, according to statement released Monday by the Palm Beach State Attorney's Office.

Clairvoyant was one of several arrested for bribing seven examiners at the Delray Beach driver's license bureau.

Immigrants paid between $500 to $2,500 to get phony documents and special treatment from examiners.

Hundreds of licenses are believed to have been issued in 2008 before the scheme was discovered in spring 2009.
