Border Patrol Weekly Blotter: December 31 - January 6

(01/06/2010)Border Patrol agents seized over 8,310 pounds of marijuana, 14.4 pounds of cocaine, and 9 pounds of heroin. Agents arrested 6 criminal aliens and 7 gang members. There were 9 rocking incidents.

Del Rio Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico and seized 172 pounds of marijuana near Del Rio, Texas. Agents arrested the subject after he illegally entered the United States on foot. Records checks revealed he had an extensive criminal history including a felony conviction for indecency with a child in the State of Texas.


Miami Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Dania Beach, Florida. Records checks revealed the subject was a Vatos Locos gang member with an extensive criminal history. The subject was currently on probation and had also been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,146 pounds of marijuana and a stolen Ford F-350 near Abram, Texas. When agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, the driver failed to yield. The driver eventually stopped and absconded from the scene. A search of the vehicle revealed 79 bundles of marijuana inside.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized a Taurus .40 caliber pistol, a Dodge Crew-Cab truck, and arrested two United States Citizens (USC) for alien smuggling at a traffic checkpoint near Sierra Vista, Arizona. Three illegal aliens were found in the vehicle, along with the loaded pistol. Records checks revealed that both USCs had extensive criminal histories.

San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents responding to illegal alien traffic were assaulted by rock throwers near Chula Vista, California. An unknown number of individuals assaulted the agents with rocks from the Mexican side of the international border fence. An agent deployed a Pepperball Launching System to disperse the attackers.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents recovered a stolen Taurus 9mm handgun near the international border fence in Douglas, Arizona. A magazine and 11 rounds of ammunition were also found nearby.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Quijota, Arizona. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Norteño 14 gang based in San Francisco, California. Records checks revealed the subject also had an extensive criminal history, to include convictions for assault with a deadly weapon and burglary.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an injured illegal alien from Mexico and seized a small amount of marijuana near El Paso, Texas. The subject stated that before entering the United States from Mexico, he was struck in the head and shot. The subject was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and then released into Border Patrol custody. Records checks revealed he was a member of the Latin Kings gang, and the marijuana was discovered on his person.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents were assaulted by rock throwers near Chula Vista, California. Approximately six subjects south of the international border fence threw rocks at agents working in the area. Agents deployed less-lethal weapons to mitigate the threat.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 3,058 pounds of marijuana, a 2002 Freightliner tractor-trailer, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. The subjects were traveling with their infant child when they presented themselves for inspection. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer and a Z Backscatter X-ray revealed the narcotics concealed within a load of copper coils.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized an Oldsmobile Silhouette mini-van and 1,147 pounds of marijuana near Granjeno, Texas. The vehicle was seen traveling south at a high rate of speed and later discovered abandoned with 71 bundles of marijuana inside.


San Diego Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Tecate, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang member. Records checks revealed he had also been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Why, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape of a child and had been previously removed from the United States.



Reported on January 4, 2010


El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a Norteño gang member. Records checks revealed he had a prior conviction for carrying a loaded firearm in the State of California and had been previously removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,577 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. A search of the trailer revealed 90 bundles wrapped in layers of foil, cellophane, and postal tape.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ajo, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had prior convictions for rape by force or fear, and marijuana possession in the State of California, and had been previously removed from the United States.

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 9 pounds of heroin, 14.4 pounds of cocaine, a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, and arrested two USCs at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. A Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle and a Z Backscatter X-ray revealed anomalies in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed the narcotics.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested a USC and seized 210 pounds of marijuana near Tucson, Arizona. Agents encountered the subject as one of a group of backpackers attempting to circumvent the checkpoint. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, to include a conviction for a sex offense against a child. He was also the subject of an active arrest warrant issued in the State of Arizona for a parole violation.

Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Lukeville, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape by force or fear, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Why, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had an active arrest warrant for sexual intercourse with a minor in the State of California, and had been previously removed from the United States.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Naco, Arizona. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction for rape in the State of South Dakota, and had been previously removed from the United States.
