MISSION - Investigators say the body found by a pet dog south of Mission is that of an illegal immigrant reported missing by his family in Alamo.

Investigators say the body is that of 18-year-old Daniel Hernandez, an illegal immigrant missing since last month. Hernandez is a Mexican national who lived in Alamo most of his life but was deported after a hit-and-run accident in June.

His case went through the system and eventually ended with Hernandez being deported in mid-July. That's when his family hired a smuggler to sneak him back into the United States. He wasn't seen or heard from since.

Hernandez's family called police saying they believed their son was lost somewhere south of Mission. Weeks of investigating and searching were fruitless.

"We searched the area where we believed that he was, routes that immigrants take and he could have possibly been at. We were not successful at finding him,â€
